What we do:
Attend winter Farmers' Markets on Saturdays for as long as we have something to sell...
Make cider weekly until our storage is empty..
Pack out apples for our wholesale and retail customers until our storage is empty...
Lots of pruning beginning in late December and January...
Clean up and repair equipment!!
Learn by attending regional, national, and sometimes international fruit grower meetings.
Plan for the next season...
Order seeds, plants, boxes, bags, replacement parts, etc...
LOTS of bookwork, and...
Plant trees, bushes etc
Then we start our next growing season about two weeks before the first green leaves start showing on the first apple trees that wake up, usually in late March or early April!
All of this is almost like a vacation compared to harvest!!! It is all at our own pace until that first hint of green starts growing, then our schedules are dictated by our crops and the weather.
