This weekend is the start of the Macoun harvest. Macoun are known for their sweet tart combination of flavors. As they ripen, the Macouns that have more red color will tend to have more developed flavor. Macouns will continue to develop in flavor and color over the next few weeks. Macoun are very crispy! Some call it the potato chip apple…makes you want to keep on eating. These apples are great for eating, baking pies and making apple sauce.
Honeycrisp, McIntosh, Gala, Cortland and Liberty will be available this weekend. This is most likely one of the last weekends to pick Honeycrisp from the trees, however, we will continue to have a good supply of them in our farm market through the fall season.
Our farmyard is full of colorful pumpkins, with fresh green stems! One of the best eating pumpkins that we grow are the peanut pumpkin or Galeux D’Eysines. The flesh is deep orange and so delicous. It may not look pretty, but the taste is excellent. We have lots of squash and pumpkins of all sizes.
You can bring your own container or purchase one of our pick your bags to fill in the orchard.
